System Overview

The Segment application is a comprehensive software solution for quantitative cardiac MR image analysis; the software has been specifically designed for use in preclinical research and will work with images acquired on our M-Series MRI systems. The Segment software employs advanced artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to facilitate faster analysis of both left ventricle (LV) and right ventricle (RV) functions. In addition to systolic functional analysis, Segment has optional modules for delayed contrast-enhanced imaging with automatic scar segmentation, strain analysis, and many other tools.

The Segment application is a comprehensive software solution for quantitative cardiac MR image analysis. The artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms used have been shown to work effectively on images acquired in various preclinical models, such as mice and rats, on our M-Series compact MRI systems.

The basic Segment software package allows you to perform left ventricle (LV) and right ventricle (RV) dimensional analysis, providing measures of cardiac function including stroke volume, ejection fraction, end diastolic/systolic volumes, etc. The advanced AI algorithms help the user to automatically detect the ventricular borders, while a variety of tools exist to adjust when needed. The Integrated Patient Database Module is also included in the basic offering, allowing for seamless integration with images acquires on our M-Series MRI systems.

The basic software package also includes the Viability Analysis Module; this module is used with delayed contrast enhanced imaging techniques, typically with a model of myocardial infarction. The Segment software allows for automatic scar segmentation and assessment of both the scar and area at risk, or the transmural area, in this model. This technique requires the i.v. injection of a gadolinium-based contrast agent.

The Strain Analysis Module is optional allowing users to analyze both long and short axis CINE or Tagged Cardiac MR images using feature tracking algorithms.

The complete software package includes the LV and RV Dimensional Analysis, Viability Analysis Module, as well as Strain Analysis Module, PACS integration, Report Generation Module, and Patient Database Synchronization Module. PACS integration allows incorporation of your PACS system with Segment to ease the management of large data sets. Report Generation Module adds the capability of generating PDF reports of all data, measurements, and analyses within a single document. Patient Database Synchronization Module allows synchronization of the database across multiple computers within a site.

Features & Benefits

The Segment application is a comprehensive software solution for quantitative cardiac MR image analysis; the software has been specifically designed for use in preclinical research and will work with images acquired on our M-Series MRI systems.

Comprehensive set of image analysis tools

A single software can be used to perform a wide variety of cardiac MR image analyses.

Available modules expand the capabilities and allow the software to be customized to meet individual needs.

Data export to .csv files

he measurements made within the software must be exported to allow for data compilation and statistical analysis. The use of a common file format, like .csv, allows users to efficiently transition from image analysis to data analysis.

Advanced AI algorithms for detecting ventricular borders

The automatic detection carried out by the Segment software greatly reduces the time it takes users to process their data.

Additionally, using the AI algorithms can reduce the variability which may be seen between users.

Movie and still image export

Pictures and movies provide context to the measurements performed in the Segment software. Easy export in common formats allows users to easily share and present their findings to others. .

Patient Database

Database for all data including image stacks, segmentation, measurements, and analyses. This allows the user to reopen Segment sessions and perform additional analyses or measurements within the same image stack.

PACS integration (optional)

his option allows integration of your PACS system with Segment may allow easier management of large numbers of study files. Images may be imported from a PACS while data can also be exported to a PACS.

Applications

Systolic Function

The basic Segment software allows you to perform dimensional analysis on both the left and right ventricles. The software utilizes advanced AI algorithms to automatically detect the ventricular borders, with tools available to make corrections as needed. The software calculates the following values:

For Left Ventricle:

For Left Ventricle:

Left and right ventricle segmentations are shown on a short axis view.

Standard measurements are calculated through the software based on the left and right ventricle segmentation.

Strain Analysis

The Strain Analysis Module can be used with both CINE images, for feature tracking, along with tagged MR images as well. Analysis may be completed on both long and short-axis images to better understand your specific disease model.

Graphical representations of the following measures are available:

Bullseye plots of the following measures are available:

A short axis anatomical image taken throughout the cardiac cycle can also be used for strain analysis.

A long axis anatomical image taken throughout the cardiac cycle can be used for strain analysis.

Viability Analysis

The Viability Analysis Module is used to automatically segment the scar in a myocardial infarction model, and to define the area at risk, or the transmural area. This analysis is completed on delayed contrast enhancement imaging, in which gadolinium-based contrast agents are injected into a model suspected of having a myocardial infarction.
